Go the #DistanceForDixon

Hey Team Dixon! Spring is here, and what better way to celebrate than to get outside for a good cause? The Vancouver Half Marathon Charity Challenge is back!

This year, by going the distance for Dixon, you’ll be supporting our Child Support Program (yes, 100% of what we raise goes straight to our programs!), which helps provide services to children who have fled violence.

It takes a village to raise a child and we cannot provide the help we do without your generous support.

Our goal this year is to raise $25,000 by June 30, 2022, so we can keep our incredibly beneficial Child Support program up and running!

Why Child Support?

At Dixon, we highly value children, and design programs and services to allow them to just be kids during a stressful time in their young lives.

Many of the children who knock on our doors (204 children in our last Fiscal Year) have often witnessed violence, if not directly experienced it. We know that children who grow up to respect women and learn how to express emotions in a healthy way are an indicator of the cycle of violence being broken. We want the children in our care to grow up safe and happy, with every opportunity to succeed and go the distance.

Because of this, we design programs with their mental and emotional well-being in mind. Dedicated Child Support Workers at Dixon Transition House and Wenda’s Place model healthy behaviour for the children. Our Child Support program also offers fun and educational group activities, like virtual arts and crafts sessions and workshops.

About the Event

Established in 1999, the Vancouver Half Marathon is one of Canada Running Series’ flagship events in Western Canada. Known for its scenic ocean-side routes and tremendous fundraising efforts in support of the Charity Challenge, this event attracts thousands of runners every year.

Whether you’re looking for a serious challenge or a fun activity for the whole family, the Vancouver Half Marathon will keep you moving. Participants can choose to run in-person or virtual options in the 21K, 5K, and 1K Kids Run or challenge themselves to complete our new Threepeat Challenge (In-Person 21K + Virtual 10K + Virtual 5K). Featuring designs inspired by iconic West Coast landscapes & landmarks, all participants will receive an ASICS souvenir shirt, finisher’s medal & other race partner goodies.

The Vancouver Half Marathon is a great way for the community to come together and support the incredible charities that are participating in the event. The best part? All processing and administrative fees are covered by event sponsors so that everything you raise or donate goes directly to the need!

Virtual Race Dates: May 27 – June 26, 2022

When you register for the race through Canada Running Series, you will get to the Vancouver Half Marathon Charity Challenge page where you will be given the option to choose a charity for whom you would like to raise funds (HINT: make sure you pick Dixon!)

When you register at this link, $5 of your registration fee goes directly to our programs.

When you’ve finished the entire race registration process, you will have your very own fundraising page that you may then share with your network and begin to rally support. All funds raised through your site (as well as any personal cash and cheques that you raise), go directly to Dixon.
