How do I clear my web browser’s cache and cookies?

Each time you access a file through your web browser, the browser caches (i.e. stores) it. In this way, the files (including any images on the page) do not have to be newly retrieved from the remote web site each time you click the Back or Forward buttons.

If you want to remove all traces of the websites you have browsed, you have to clear your browser’s cache.

If you do not see instructions for your specific version or browser, search your browser’s Help menu for “clear cache”.

If you’re unsure what browser version you’re using, from the Help menu, select About [browser name].

Chrome

Desktop

Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
Select Tools.
Select Clear browsing data.
In the dialog that appears, select the Clear browsing history checkbox.
Use the menu at the top to select the amount of data you want to delete.
Select beginning of time to clear your entire browsing history.
Click Clear browsing data.

Mobile

Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar
Select History
Select Clear Browsing Data
Check off which data you want to delete
Click Clear Browsing Data

Internet Explorer

To Delete Specific Sites

Select the Favorites button.
Select the History tab, and choose how you want to view your history by selecting a filter from the menu.
To delete specific sites, right-select a site from any of these lists and then select Delete.

To Delete Browsing History

To delete browsing history in Internet Explorer 11 and Internet Explorer 10

Select the Tools button.
Point to Safety, and then select Delete browsing history.
Choose the types of data or files you want to remove
Select Delete.

To delete browsing history in Internet Explorer 9

Select the Tools button, and then select Internet options.
Under Browsing history, select Delete.

To delete browsing history in Internet Explorer 8

Select the Safety menu
Select Delete Browsing History.
Choose the types of data and files you want to remove from
Select Delete.

Firefox

Click the Library button, click History and then click Clear Recent History….
Next, click the arrow next to Details to select exactly what information will get cleared. Your choices are described in the What things are included in my history? on the Firefox website.
Click the drop-down menu next to Time range to clear to choose how much of your history Firefox will clear. Select how much history you want to clear.
Finally, click the Clear Now button. The window will close and the items you’ve selected will be cleared.

Desktop

Choose History.
Clear History and Website Data.
Click the pop-up menu and choose how far back you want your browsing history cleared.
Click Clear History

Mobile

Tap Settings > Safari
Select Clear History and Website Data
Confirm Clear History and Data
