Dixon Transition Society_International Women's Day

Every year on March 8, International Women’s Day (IWD) serves as a global call to celebrate the achievements of women while advocating for gender equality. This year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, highlights the urgency of driving meaningful change to close the gender gap faster than the projected timeline of 2158. At Dixon Transition Society, we recognize the significance of this movement and invite our community to take action in support of women and children fleeing violence.

Why International Women’s Day Matters

IWD has been recognized for over a century, evolving into a worldwide movement that educates, raises awareness, and advocates for gender parity. While progress has been made, women—especially those facing violence and systemic barriers—continue to experience inequality.

This year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, emphasizes the need for immediate and impactful efforts to:

Challenge gender stereotypes and biases
Call out discrimination
Advocate for women’s rights and safety
Support organizations that uplift women

How Our Community Can Get Involved

There are many ways our supporters can join Dixon Transition Society in making a difference this International Women’s Day:

Educate Yourself and Others

Resources such as Lean In’s 50 Ways to Fight Bias provide practical tools to recognize and address gender bias in everyday life. By learning and sharing these insights, we can create more inclusive spaces for women and girls.

Support Women-Focused Charities

At Dixon Transition Society, we provide housing, resources, and support to women and children fleeing domestic violence. Donations—whether monetary, in-kind, or through volunteer efforts—directly contribute to their safety and empowerment.

Use Your Voice

Social media is a powerful tool for advocacy. Share messages of support, highlight the stories of inspiring women, and use hashtags like #IWD2025 and #AccelerateAction to spread awareness.

Challenge Bias in Your Workplace and Community

Whether it’s addressing gender bias in hiring or ensuring equal opportunities in leadership, small actions in our daily environments can drive systemic change.

Dixon Transition Society: Accelerating Action for Women in Need

Our work at Dixon aligns with the goals of International Women’s Day by providing survivors of domestic violence with the tools to rebuild their lives. Through our Transition House, Second-Stage Housing, and supportive programs, we create pathways for women and children to thrive beyond adversity.

This IWD, we encourage our community to stand with us in accelerating action toward gender equality. Whether through donations, advocacy, or spreading awareness, every effort contributes to a future where women and girls live free from violence and discrimination.
