Volunteer Inquiry Form
As a volunteer, you give your time and energy to Dixon Transition Society. In doing so, you help us provide our excellent support services for women and children fleeing violence.
At Dixon, we uphold values of respect, trust, acceptance, and education, and we expect our volunteers to celebrate individuality & diversity, and be non-judgemental, sensitive and empathetic.
Please note that volunteer opportunities may change depending on Dixon’s needs, and the needs of the women and children we serve.
How do volunteers help at Dixon?
Provide governance leadership on our Board of Directors: Our Board of Directors provides leadership surrounding our mission, strategic plan, and finance; is a voice for change and increases Dixon’s profile in the community; increases Dixon’s impact by creating strategic connections and contributing to fundraising efforts; and acts in a position of trust for the community. Are you interested in joining our Board?
Organize donations in Bea’s Boutique: We are so lucky to have generous community members provide clothing, household items, toiletries, and personal hygiene products for the women and children we serve. We want the families at Dixon to access these donations in a way that makes them feel respected. Volunteers organize donations at “Bea’s Boutique” so that women can have a quality “shopping” experience while they access supplies they need.
Garden: We strive to maintain a high level of quality at our housing facilities, including the outdoor spaces. Mary’s Garden is tended by volunteers and provides the women and children at Dixon House with a beautiful, calming outdoor space to enjoy.

Volunteer opportunities not currently available:
Grocery shop: There is always action in the Dixon House kitchen. A unique aspect of our transitional housing is that we do our best to cater to the dietary needs of our multicultural families, and volunteers are an important part of making this happen. Grocery shoppers pick up and deliver prepared groceries which are pre-ordered by the house. (It’s that simple!) The commitment is 1.5 hours per week with mileage reimbursement. Grocery shoppers must have access to a vehicle and daytime availability during the week.
Share knowledge: Do you have special skills or even basic ones? If you think that our organization can benefit from your skills or knowledge, get in touch!
