In honour of International Women’s Day on March 8th, we’re sharing stories from the amazing women who work on the front lines of our programs, from counsellors to support workers. Every day, they work hard and show great compassion to the brave and resilient women who come through our doors.

“At Wenda’s Place, we host a weekly ‘Coffee & Connections’
hour to give women a chance to connect with each other as neighbours and
members of the same community, as well as an opportunity to chat with staff in
a more relaxed, social setting.

During one Coffee & Connections session, two women discussed and agreed that: ‘This place is safe and reminds me of my home country. I feel safe enough to keep my door unlocked if I wanted to rather than needing to bar my windows. I have a community of warm and supportive neighbours and staff, all at my fingertips if I need help. Wenda’s Place is a safe place.’”

Allison is the Transitional Housing Programs Coordinator. She oversees Dixon House, Wenda’s Place, and Third Stage Housing.

Every year, over 500 women and children seek safety, guidance, and hope at Dixon. You can help.
