Upcoming February Events

February 17, 2012

Here are two exciting ways to help the women and children in our Transition House:

Sign up for Shimmy Mob! Women helping women while expressing themselves using the dynamic and exciting belly dance. Proceeds from Burnaby Shimmy Mob benefit Dixon Transition Society, so let the movement begin! Though it isn’t taking place until May 12, be sure to visit the Shimmy Mob website for further information on how to participate in the movement! http://www.shimmymob.com/

Or do you want to relax with some Yoga? For the month of February Moksha Yoga donates its proceeds from their Friday Karma class to Dixon Transition Society. Haven’t heard of Karma class before? Not to worry, all the details are listed on Moksha’s website:http://burnaby.mokshayoga.ca/

SO JOIN US IN ENDING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Drawing on Hope

September 16, 2011

We are excited to be hosting our first cocktail reception, Drawing on Hope, an event that celebrates women and children who have overcome adversity. The evening will be filled with good conversation, great company, and a special premier of an animated film created by the children in Dixon Society’s programs. A silent auction will be held as a fundraising initiative to help serve the women and children at the Dixon Transition House. We hope you are able to join us on October 27, 2011 at 5:30PM-7:30PM to show your support and care for the women and children in your community. To purchase tickets, please click on the image below.

More positive updates for July-August!

August 22, 2011

A Big Thank You to Canadian Women’s Foundation and their partners, Winners and Homesense, and Rogers Media, for donating a portion of the proceeds from the 7th Annual CWF Shelter from the Storm campaign to our organization. Please visit the Canadian Women’s Foundation’s website to find out how they continually help prevent violence against women across Canada: http://www.cdnwomen.org/EN/index.html

Thank you to Rotary Club of Burnaby for their generous Donation of $5000 and continuous support of Dixon Transition Society. The $5000 that the Rotary Club has donated to us will help create a space that is more accessible and organized respecting the dignity of the women and children in our program who access the community’s donations. For more information on the Rotary Club of Burnaby and to find out other charities they have supported in the past, please visit their website at http://www.rotaryburnaby.org/.

Last month, we found out that we were a recipient of the Home Depot’s $25,000 Affordable Housing Grant! Receiving this funding is so important to us, as our current transition house has been in dire need of an energy efficient upgrade, and this grant allows us to fund and prioritize this project. We are extremely excited to begin the initial phases of this project with the Home Depot; be sure to check back for more updates around the progress of our Energy Efficient Transition House. Thank you to Home Depot for recognizing the need for a sustainable transition house upgrade, and for partnering up with local charities like Dixon Transition Society, in order to help create what is sure to be a lasting and positive impact on the community and its members. http://www.homedepot.ca/

Update on our donations room renovation

February 7, 2011

We are excited to announce that the G&F foundation grant we applied for in October 2010 was approved, and we successfully secured $10,000 for our donations room renovation.

A big Thank You to everyone at G&F Financial Group, including G&F’s Board of Directors, for acknowledging and supporting the work that our organization does in the community to help women and children fleeing domestic violence and abuse. Thank you for understanding that our donations room is essential in providing our program and outreach families with basic necessities that the community so generously donates to us.

G&F presented us with the cheque on January 24, 2011 at the G&F Kingsway branch. From left to right in the photo: Vince Fiamengo-G&F board chair, Gillian Sherwood-G&F Kingsway Branch Manager, Pany Aghili-Dixon Society Executive Director, Eudora Koh-Dixon Society Resource Development Coordinator, Howard Normann-G&F board member.
