Dixon Transition Society will be hosting a free half-day event in recognition of National Victims of Crime Awareness Week. This event provides you with the opportunity to learn about the integral work of Dixon Transition Society and other organizations, and the process that a woman goes through after she seeks help to leave her abusive relationship. Our purpose is to address the proficiencies and gaps in services within our community. A guest speaker will be joining us from BC Society of Transition Houses.

Join Dixon on Saturday, February 25th as we cheer on our local SFU Hockey Team. The game will be held at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre, where they will be battling against Thompson Rivers University. Athena Day Spa, one of our donors for ‘Drawing on Hope’, has so generously offered to host a fundraiser event for us at their location on Hastings Street. Drop by on November 28th, to get a head start on your Christmas shopping and check out the unique jewellery by 5th Avenue Jewellery and the lovely spa products in store. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Dixon Society programs which help to support women and children impacted by domestic violence.

Last month, we found out that we were a recipient of the Home Depot’s $25,000 Affordable Housing Grant! Receiving this funding is so important to us, as our current transition house has been in dire need of an energy efficient upgrade, and this grant allows us to fund and prioritize this project. We are extremely excited to begin the initial phases of this project with the Home Depot; be sure to check back for more updates around the progress of our Energy Efficient Transition House. Come out for a lovely evening of jazz music and entertainment, while supporting the Dixon Society.  The jazz trio, Sax Among Friends, will be performing on May 14, 2011 at 7:30 pm in the hall of Deer Lake United Church, 5135 Sperling Avenue. Tickets are $15 and all proceeds will go to Dixon Society.  The jazz trio will perform “Songs I learned from my grandparents”. Guests are able to mingle and socialize throughout the night while light refreshments are served. Don’t miss out on a fun evening of gentle jazz, show tunes and stories.
